Dr Christine Checinska

Christine Checinska is the Senior Curator Africa and Diaspora: Textiles and Fashion Victoria and Albert Museum.

Checinska is a designer, writer, curator and dancer whose research explores the relationship between cloth, culture and race. Her work spans art, fashion and textiles.

Having studied Fashion and Textile Design, graduating in 1986, she completed her Master in Fashion and Communication in 2002. She earned her doctorate from the Goldsmiths in 2009 with her thesis Colonizin’ in Reverse: the Creolised Aesthetic of the Windrush Generation.

She has since gone on to write for several journals, lecture, curate numerous exhibitions and is has been with the V&A since 2020
