Aboubakar Fofana was born in Mali but raised in France. Today he splits his time between Bamako and Paris.
Having trained under a master-Japanese dyer, Fofana’s multidisciplinary practice combines indigo dying, art, textile design and calligraphy. He is dedicated to preserving and championing traditional West-African indigo dying techniques and is involved in a permaculture project, establishing a farm in Mali to generate food, medicine and plants for naturing dying.
Fofana creates contemporary art installations, textile homeware and has collaborated with Parisian fashion designers.
